Royal Navy Merlin helicopter (ZH846)
27 July 2022 - 10-43-15 Royal Navy Merlin helicopter (ZH846) did a couple of runs up and down river clearly showing off its radar array. That black blob on the side contains radar that allows the aircraft to conduct air and missile defence along with strike command and control. The 'bag' rotates downwards and hangs beneath the aircraft when in use. Whilst properly known as a Crowsnest they are better known by a different terms. Following a tradition started with the old SeaKing helicopters, any craft now equipped with the kevlar encased radar is known as a 'bagger'. ------------ Royal Navy Merlin helicopter (ZH846)
