How did that happen ? October here already ?

There will be lots of Photos in this album over lots of pages.

When it's ready you'll be able to....Click on a thumbnail to see it larger.

And.....You can even start a slide show..

Oil / Chemical tanker Pacific Jade passes Dartmouth on its way to collect a pilot at Brixham. The 183 metre ship is heading for Amsterdam having departed San Lorenzo. In Argentina.

It should mean there's a good sunrise when the river turns this sort of colour.
Well,not always.........
---------------------
Sunrise over Kingswear
01 October 2024 - 07:16:08
It wasn't what you could call a bad sunrise. Just not a great one.
---------------------
Sunrise over Kingswear
01 October 2024 - 07:17:15
Look, it tried its hardest. It just wasn't good enough. Back to school.
---------------------
Sunrise over Kingswear
01 October 2024 - 07:23:24
Things did develop for a while. But no real showstopper.

Nothing like a good pump of concrete early in the morning. The Noss on Dart hotel and apartment complex is taking shape.

The searchlight emplacement at Froward Point is 2.6 kilometres from the Dartmouth Office. I wonder what they might be doing?
----------------
Froward Point
01 October 2024 - 15:09:45
One Inspiration is known as a Post Suezmax container ship and as such is 400 metres long. Its length might not prohibit a visit to Dartmouth but its width would. This mammoth is 61 metres wide. Note our two onlookers at Froward Point.

01 October 2024 - 15:09:53
By my reckoning the top of the containers is 40 metres above sea level. The same as The View From The Dartmouth Office.
----------------------
Passing Trade
01 October 2024 - 15:10:13
So, One Inspiration could fit in the river lengthways, but as the river is little over 200 metres wide at its narrowest there would be no wiggle room. Not only that our view would be obliterated.

Dartmouth and Kingswear Railway have a number of diesel, this is 37703, a Class 37 locomotive. Class 37's are frequently nicknamed 'tractors'. And yes, it's because of the sound. But what's that in the foreground ..........?

03 October 2024 - 07:36:01
It's that day again. The day when the sun rises directly behind the Daymare (as viewed from 'the office'). Of course, it starts out off to one side.
--------------------
Sunrise behind the Daymare
03 October 2024 - 07:37:49
It moves at quite a rate of knots . As, of course, do we.
-----------------------

03 October 2024 - 07:39:36
And there you have it. For the techie minded:
100ASA. 1/8000th, f29 with a 4x neutral density filter. And it's still over exposed.
-----------------------

03 October 2024 - 08:07:12
It's not often someone has their home repossessed. Seems to happen to the Dartmouth seals all too regular. Still it's their own fault.
---------------------

03 October 2024 - 08:07:49
Sat enjoying the breeze their peace was disturbed by the arrival of a human. Worse still it was a human with a purpose.
---------------------

03 October 2024 - 08:11:50
And then he was joined by another human with a purpose.
---------------------

03 October 2024 - 08:12:34
It was clear someone had to move.
---------------------
Seal sanctuary repossession.
03 October 2024 - 08:14:13
And it turned out the seals were camera shy.
---------------------

03 October 2024 - 08:14:15
Both soon headed for pastures deep.
---------------------

03 October 2024 - 08:33:01
And so those dastardly humans could get about their work.
---------------------

03 October 2024 - 08:37:39
And move the pontoon off to its winter quarters in Waterhead Creek.
---------------------

03 October 2024 - 08:43:53
It's seems likely that the canny seals know exactly where its going. Its good to know there's always a bed available somewhere.

A busy Sunday morning for Dart Harbour. And this was only a small part of their work. The RDYC seal pontoon had become unfastened at the southern end and the resident was wondering if he was being invited aboard the nice little red yacht.

Slightly strange: a man overboard dummy appeared in the water near to Akula. No one seemed too perturbed about it.

One of the more realistic man overboard dummies one sees.

Eventually Akula's tender went to fetch (it was theirs)
-------------------

07 October 2024 - 15:23:11
It's no easy operation to raise such a stricken vessel and as you can see involved a fair few folk including two divers - one in the water and one in reserve. The boat was finally lifted Tuesday morning. I'd love to show you the operation but....I was having my Covid jab.

That distinctive sound of a Chinooks twin rotors alerted me to its presence, but it was nowhere to be seen. Until finally downriver it came. Had it landed at the college ?

This streak is a P&O cruise liner Arvia heading for Southampton.

But it is 48 kilometres away and should not be visible. How does that work? Well you just Google an image of the ship and just see how how many decks it's got.

13 October 2024 - 09:56:51For a while it looked like superyacht 21.12 would arrive in view just as LPG tanker Galaxy River would pass behind. Well, that';s exactly what did happen, but about a minute too late.

Straight from the shipyard where it was built in Vlissingen, Netherlands comes superyacht 21.12, all 60 metres of it. According to a post from Ribeye, the ship has come here to collect two Ribeye tenders.
Led in by pilot boat Mallard, 21.12 comes past Dartmouth Castle
